Description
Translation: Burnt rice
Tutong is the word for cooked rice that is slightly brown to chocolate (if burned) that sticks to the sides and bottom of a rice pot.
The girl's name is Yta (short for Negrita) and the boy is Yzo (short for Mestizo). These are characters I made up.
Growing up, I recall that my grandparents, uncles and aunts would tell me never to eat tutong because (1) it will make your skin dark and (2) it will make you lazy.
This painting demystifies the belief. The color of your skin is not influenced by food but food can make you lazy if you eat too much and become sluggish. Or maybe I'm just plain lazy :-)

Again thanks Wendy! Love it when people appreciate what I do. Many of these paintings are on show right now and I get a kick listening to them talk about the pieces. Of course I do not introduce myself as the artist.

Nice theme, Paul!

Thanks Lourry! I guess no one's done this theme ever. It's not popular and perhaps never will be.
