Description

This is painting number 1 on Filipino-American Identity crisis. The American and Filipino flags have been deconstructed in the background. The stripes of the American flag are represented as prison bars casting its shadow on the confused Filipino. However, you can see that he is actually free and not contained in any prison. He wears a loin-cloth that represents his Filipino identity. At the same time he wears a coat that represents his American identity. He looks at himself and finds a void. An emptiness brought about his confusion with regards to his identity.
